Eggs and Bagels anybody....?

jaqui_2504th Year students of ISEG Bordeaux enjoyed an end of year International Breakfast with their “British” Responsable Pedagogique Jacqui Garcia to mark the end of term recently.

The Students, some more willing than others, ! were encouraged to try bagels with scrambled eggs and brown sauce, cream cheese and salmon or sweet lemon curd. Bucks Fizz (Champagne and Orange) and English Breakfast Tea washed the breakfast down.

Bagels are a staple bread product in the USA, especially in cities with large Jewish populations. The dough is prepared in the form of a donut sized ring which is boiled in water and then baked. The result is a delicious chewy interior with a crisp exterior.

The bagels were unanimously appreciated but students had more difficulty with the Brown Sauce and Marmite. Brown sauce is a vinegar, fruit and spice-based condiment, which is commonly found in the UKunder a brand name such as HP Sauce. Marmite is a dark brown-coloured savoury spread made from the yeast that is a by-product of the brewing industry. It has a very strong, slightly salty flavour. It is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it type of food. Children in Britain are generally fed it from the time they are weaned, and most never grow out of it.

French students were not convinced !
